(I attended the IMHREC conference in Dublin on the 26th March last) and must say that I found it strangely comforting that some one is finally realising that we (professionals) cannot 'make' anyone well, all we may be able to do is to help them find their own path to wellness and as the chair of the National Service users Executive explained to me, (www.nsue.ie) when her daughter is not well, that is when she holds the hope for her (and protects her) until she is well enough again to reclaim her own path. I believe that to be apart of anybody else's journey is as much a privilege as it is to be present / apart of any special event in someone's life e.g. birth, marriage, graduation etc.
